How can I transfer this dvd over to my windows movie maker?

I know people makes music videos and uploads movies or whatever on youtube by taking a dvd and transferring it to the windows movie maker (or at least the computer itself) and I was wondering how can I do that? I also need one that uploads the videos fast (since my computer shuts itself off it something takes too long to upload something) thanks
